Apprehending Wanted Sacramento DUI Suspects via the World Wide Web

As if they already didn't have many things to worry about, outstanding DUI suspects in Sacramento, California are now having their mug shots posted online in an attempt to galvanize the community and bring them to justice.

Specifically, the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office recently posted the pictures and descriptions of 17 California DUI suspects who are either repeat offenders or have failed to show up in court and face a variety of misdemeanor and felony charges. As of July 30th, three of those 17 Sacramento DUI suspects had been apprehended thanks to information provided by the community.

Such early success was exactly what Sacramento County DUI investigator Sam Gault was looking for upon implementation of the Recidivist DUI program, which is the first such program in Sacramento.

Gault said in an ABC News 10 story that the idea of this DUI program was to involve the community in nabbing wanted suspects like 23-year-old Igor Stebakov, who is accused of being under the influence during an accident that killed an innocent man in August 2004. Gault commented that this specific victim's family members deserve to see the person accountable for his death be brought to justice, something that the Sacramento County DUI program is aiming to achieve.

Whether it's someone who is looking to do the right thing and turn a suspect in or another person who has some grudge against the wanted individual, Gault added in the story that each suspect that is brought to justice via this collaborative Sacramento DUI program would represent one less dangerous person on the road and at least one life saved.

So far, Gault and a team of criminal investigators have worked with a deputy district attorney to clear 111 warrants for outstanding Sacramento DUI suspects. Another 200 cases are pending under this innovative Sacramento DUI program, which was funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
