Are tougher DUI laws the answer? Sounds like more education is needed to the deadly consequences of DUI. Change is brought by education.

Why would anyone consider drinking and driving a birthright? I love independence as much as anyone, but some consideration for the safety of others seems in order here.

Coming from Wyoming and having family living in Montana. This assesment of the DUI culture in those states is spot on. It is very true that almost everyone has some sort of DUI conviction or knows someone who has. There are many factors contributing to this belief. As stated above many feel a "birthright" to do whatever they want. They also view alcohol in the same light as soda and juice, a normal beverage to consume when thirsty. It is followed by generation after generation. Nobody is stopping to break the mold. Honestly, the lifestyle enjoys it, and sees injury or death from DUI as part of life. Although particularly ignorant, It is a staple of the culture in those states, that alcohol is accepted by all and many times at a very young age. I personally know of people with 5 and 6 dui convictions who are still driving and have a license.
